MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The program is designed for adult lyrical singers without age restrictions who aspire to take part in a professional training initiative. This initiative provides them with the chance to gain valuable experience at an advanced artistic level, aiming to kickstart their careers and ease their transition into the professional music industry.

Basic health coverage is required for the duration of the training period. Moreover, candidates from outside the European Union must hold a valid study visa for Spain.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Masterclass Ópera Estudio 'Suor Angelica' will be divided into two parts, the first one will take place in Madrid from the 24th to the 30th of June, where the participants will work in the roles and throughout the production process of the opera Suor Angelica, by Giacomo Puccini. The second and last part will take place from the 24th to the 31st of August in Santander, culminating in three performances open to the public.

The students selected by the Organization will have the opportunity to participate in these functions, which will take place on the 29th, 30th, and 31st of August. Participation in these activities will not be remunerated.
The Masterclass is open to opera singers of any nationality who possess adequate experience to perform the assigned role in the opera. It is highly recommended that participants arrive at the beginning of the Opera Studio with their role thoroughly memorized to make the most of the Opera Studio Masterclass. There are no age restrictions for participants.
The 'Suor Angelica' Opera Studio Masterclass will take place in two different locations. The first part will take place in Madrid, while the second and last part will take place in Santander, Cantabria, Spain.
- SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

The submission period for applications is from March 1, 2024, to June 5, 2024. To complete this process, applicants must fill out the registration form and attach the required documentation. The application for admission will be submitted via an online form, which must be completed accurately. Due to the limited number of available spots, it is advisable to complete and submit the form as early as possible to secure participation.
Participants must indicate their voice type and preferred role on the registration form.
Participation in Opera Studio Suor Angelica
490 euros
Includes:
  • Individual singing, interpretation, and stage classes.
  • Preparation of the assigned role with the assistance of an expert répétiteur.
  • Mentoring and collaborative work with Musical Director Christian Frattima.
  • Rehearsals with the orchestra, if selected to perform one of the main roles.
  • Participation in at least one of the lyrical concerts (if selected) will occur either at the Baroque Palace of Elsedo, an 18th-century historic building located in Pámanes, or at the Major Seminary of the Pontifical University in Comillas, characterized by its impressive Neo-Gothic architecture that dominates the urban landscape
  • Debut in the assigned role in at least one of the performances, if selected.
  • Active participation in all scheduled meetings and rehearsals.
  • Characterization of the character, including costume and makeup.
  • Diploma certifying participation in the Opera Studio
Does not include:
  • Transfers, Accommodation, and Meals. The Organization will offer the possibility to book accommodation at exclusive prices for Festival participants.

Production

Title: Suor Angelica

"Suor Angelica" is a one-act opera composed by Giacomo Puccini with a libretto by Giovacchino Forzano. The story follows Suor Angelica, a young Italian noblewoman who, after a family scandal, is sent to a convent by her family.

In the convent, Suor Angelica grapples with her pain and loneliness while dealing with remorse for a past marked by tragedy. The opera explores themes of redemption, sacrifice, and forgiveness, culminating in a heartbreaking finale where Suor Angelica experiences a spiritual revelation and reconciles with her destiny.

Work Plan
The production of 'Suor Angelica' will consist of two parts.
