The Festival
The third edition of the Maskarade Opera Festival in 2024 stood out for featuring two opera studios with works by G. Puccini, joining the celebrations of the centenary of the composer's death. The festival presented Suor Angelica, part of the Il Trittico trilogy, which features an all-female cast and immerses us in the world of a young nun, Suor Angelica, whose life is marked by repentance, redemption, and the search for forgiveness.
The Suor Angelica Opera Studio was divided into two parts: the first took place in Madrid, where participants worked on their roles and the entire staging process of the opera; the second and final part took place in August in Santander, culminating in the closing performance of the festival. Suor Angelica was staged in the majestic Church of the Seminario Mayor de Comillas, an exceptional venue that radiates architectural beauty and a special aura, where the music fused with the grandeur of this iconic space, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.
The production was accompanied by pianist Su Cui and conducted by Christian Frattima, with stage direction by Marco Iezzi, both of whom brought their extensive experience and artistic vision to the performance. Additionally, the chorus on stage was composed of members from the opera studio.
